“We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has gone through. I do not think that wide circles of the American society or wide circles of the Christian community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel and the anti-Gospel. This confrontation lies within the plans of divine providence. It is a trial which the whole Church… must take up.” Karol Cardinal Wotyla (Sept. 1976)

Let's Play Spot the Professional Politician...

...with the Q & A at Saddleback Church over the weekend:

RICK WARREN: "NOW, LET'S DEAL WITH ABORTION. 40 MILLION ABORTIONS SINCE ROE V. WADE. YOU KNOW, AS A PASTOR I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS ALL OF THE TIME. ALL OF THE PAIN AND ALL OF THE CONFLICTS. I KNOW THIS IS A VERY COMPLEX ISSUE. 40 MILLION ABORTIONS. AT WHAT POINT DOES A BABY GET HUMAN RIGHTS IN YOUR VIEW?"

BARACK OBAMA: "WELL, I THINK THAT WHETHER YOU ARE LOOKING AT IT FROM A THEOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE OR A SCIENTIFIC PERSPECTIVE, ANSWERING THAT QUESTION WITH SPECIFICITY, YOU KNOW, IS ABOVE MY PAY GRADE."

JOHN MCCAIN: "AT THE MOMENT OF CONCEPTION."

Barack Obama has yet to answer any direct question with specificity, but his actions do, indeed, speak louder than any of his rhetoric.

If a straighforward answer is above his paygrade, then would someone tell me for what reason is he paid at all?

Funny, then, that McCain makes no apologies for voting in support of embryonic stem cell research.

Good point, Alycin.

These positions are inconsistent.

Frankly, I'm not thrilled with either candidate. But of the two, which is the lesser evil?

Unfortunately, a choice must be made.

Some people, myself included, think it might be the better choice to write in or vote 3rd party, rather then vote for someone who says he is pro-life but then supports ESCR. At the same time, that might be risky because it might make chances better for Obama to win.

Tough decision.
